Year-Round Training For Middle and High School Athletes

October 15, 2026•1 min read

If your athlete only trains during the season, they’re already behind. The athletes who dominate on game day train year-round.

Why Year-Round Training Matters

Athletic development doesn’t take a season off. Athletes who only train in-season lose ground the moment their season ends. Strength drops. Speed plateaus. They show up next season starting from behind.

Youth is the best time to build a foundation. Middle school and high school are prime years for building the strength, coordination, and power that carry through the rest of an athlete’s career.

Injury prevention. Research shows strength training can significantly reduce sports injuries by strengthening muscles and connective tissue and building more resilient athletes.

The Training Cycle

  • Off-Season: Build max strength, power, and speed mechanics

  • Pre-Season: Shift toward sport-ready power and agility

  • In-Season: Maintain strength, reduce injury risk, and prevent late-season fade

  • Post-Season: Recover, retest, and reset goals

Real Results at WSP

  • +1 mph of top speed in 30 sessions

  • +3 inches on vertical jump in 30 sessions

  • Weekly testing, so every athlete’s progress is tracked

Athletes who complete 30 sessions in 12 weeks and don’t hit both targets keep training at no cost until they do.
